Frankie Manning dancing Lindy Hop at the Savoy (Late 1930s?)
In this short snippet from Ken Burns's Jazz, Frankie Manning discusses Lindy Hop. While doing so, the film shows stock footage of Frankie Manning dancing in the Savoy ballroom as a youth, probably in the late 1930s. It is very short but clearly Frankie Manning, in a bow tie, suit, and Frankie Manning smile.
At 0:49, he's in the middle of the right side of the screen.
When the camera changes angles at 0:52, he's swinging out his partner from the left side of the screen into the middle.
When the camera changes again at 0:56, he's back on the right side of the screen, sometimes slightly out of frame.
We highly recommend watching the entire Ken Burns Jazz series as a basic overview of jazz and swing history.
